My S is about 21K miles, everytime I raise the RPM to about 3800 RPM, I will hear a humming noise. However, this noise will go away if my RPM either raised up above or lowed down below 3800 RPM. Does anyone have the same issue? May be at the difference RPM?

My rear diff did that at certain speeds. As it got worse the humming got worse. I hope that's not your problem, it could be as simple as tires or intake noise. Really need more info than you gave.

 

No, mine is totally stock. The humming noise is from the engine compartment. I think it comes from either the bearing or the pully by the belt in front of the engine.

This should be warranty work if any, however, I dont think it will get any worst. I just try to eliminate the dealer to touch my S as much as possible. Therefore, I asked if anyone has the same noise.

does it happen when rev to 3800 rpm while in neutral, or when the clutch is disengaged?

 

It happens when driving. At 6th gear, it's exactly at 70MPH.
