Default Hyperwhite versus plain bulbs

Since my post on the clear diffuser install seems to have generated some interest in this issue, I decided to take my own advice and post a separate thread on the topic. IMHO, some people have confused the point I was trying to make -- that the hyeprwhites put out a more pure white that looks much better than the conventional bulb. True, the bulb itself is blue, but if that bothers you, it's easily fixed by spraying a thin coat of silver paint over the bulb before installation.

We took some comparision shots which I've posted below. In comparison to the HIDs and the hyperwhites, the stock bulbs put out a dirty yellow light which clashed with the HIDs. The photos below illustrate the point quite dramatically. The first shot is of my car with the stock bulbs. The second is of Airgate's with the hyperwhites. Also notice that the fog lamps on the longer view of cars look yellow in comparison to the HIDs and hyperwhites.

The appearance of the hyperwhites in person and the way the color temp matches the HIDs is striking, so striking that I'm going to switch my fog lamps, parking lights, and back up lights over to the hyperwhites. In fact, while we were completing the install, Airgate switched his back-up lights to hyperwhites. I couldn't believe the difference it made with this silver car.

I'm still debating the turn signals, but only because of my own concern about whether a hyperwhite turn signal might be confusing to the morons who populate our roads today and create a saftey hazard. Other than that issue, I'm sold on the hyperwhites.

First, a close up of my headlamp. Notice how yellow the parking light looks in comparison to the HID.

Now Airgate's with the hyperwhite parking bulb.

A longer view. First shot of Airgate's car, with the hyperwhite parking and turnsignal indicators. The color match of the bulbs with the HIDs is great. But notice how yellow his fogs look in comparison.

Now my car with amber turn indicators and stock parking bulbs.

You make your own judgment.

I don't know if this is worth looking into or not, but these are silver bulbs that light amber. I can't find much info right now, but I'll keep looking.

switching the bulbs was the first thing that I did to my car and what a difference it just looks a lot cleaner and they are brighter. But one thing you might want to watch for is that because they are brighter and higher wattage the plugs for the bulbs might melt over time it's happen to me in the other cars I've. Just a warning on what might happen.

Rick, I'll agree with you that with night driving the hyper white bulbs are a benefit and function better. But the whole point of going to the clear instead of amber lenses is for the improved looks of the car when it is standing still or day time when the lights are off. When you take it from that standpoint the blue bulbs just doesn't look right.

I agree about the blue cast the bulbs give the clear diffusers -- I don't like it. that why I'm going to experiment with painting them silver.

I'm experimenting, but I'm sure it will have to be high-temp paint.

TurboVtk, what the hell are you smoking? Where in any of my posts did I mention the word rice? I'll agree with you maybe Suzuka Owners will like the blue bulbs or hell I'll even go as far as people who have Blue Spoon Calipers. But the Blue Bulbs just don't look right on a Red, Yellow, Black, Silver, White S2000 that has no other hint of blue anywhere else. Even Rick has stated that he would agree with me.
