Buy it now of $21K for a MY00 seems overpriced...but then it IS a stealership so maybe that's normal
but why only 2K mi on the odo? I'd at least get a carfax if you can't look at it in person...perhaps have someone from the boards go over and take a look...

Well, it is a Lexus dealership, not Honest John's shady pay-by-the-week used-car lot. They wouldn't even bother trying to sell a car if they thought it had problems - they would just send it off to auction.
Maybe, as suggested, you could get someone from a regional forum to check it out for you.

for a car that only has 2k on it, this is well worth the 21k on this. I'd be all over it if it had a proper service history and i just didn't buy one in that color and interior and year. :-D. Yes, even on a car of 2k miles, i want a full service history. I would still get a leakdown done to make sure it's on the level.

2,000 miles ! That is a great price for a basically brand new S2, F'ing buy it. Yes there are lower priced ones out there, but with a lot more miles. Be sure to have the car checked out! I purchased a MY00 in March for 21,500 with 6200 miles and could not be happier! Great Car and worth the 4 year wait!

If it's only 2k miles, you have to consider that it may just be a demo car, which is because it's been abused since the beginning of it's life. I would be unsure and wait...

Answering your questions in order:

1. The price is excellent based on mileage and the picture. That's about all one can say. Check Kelly's Blue Book site for a 2nd opinion. I think it's www.kbb.com.
2. If I were serious -- and I mean, obviously, very serious -- I'd call the dealership and get as many details as they can give you. If all is kosher see if you can put a refundable deposit on your credit card. Then fly out and check it out. You'll eat the plane ticket but it's worth it if there's none in your area for sale. I can empathize with you because I had to pay $150 to get a car shipped from Memphis to Richmond.
3. The dealer should provide you with the name of the previous owner so you can call them to get some history.

Bottom line. It's for sale at some generic Lexus dealership (isn't it amazing how, like McDonald's, they all look exactly alike? ) It's about as safe as you're going to get buying a used car which, at its very best, is a buyer beware situation in any case.

I'll give you some sage advice. Used S2000s are in short supply and in high demand. You twiddle your thumbs hemming and hawing about moving and it's gone. To cite personal experience, the 1st S2000 I looked at, a 2001 Silverstone with red interior, I test drove, unfortunately, in the rain with the top up. I wanted to test drive it with the top down before making a decision so waited 2 days for the weather to clear. Now, I'd already decided not to get that particular S2000 and transfer an '02 yellow from Memphis to Richmond. But I did want a 2nd test drive with the top down to cement my decision. I didn't get a chance because someone bought it on, of all things, a rainy frig'n day. While I was at the dealership that day processing the transfer request I saw the new owner show up and drive it off the lot.

You snooze, you lose.
