Obviously it wouldn't be the case in a pursuit like this but in a lighter situation...

Is it true that you have to be in the vehicle (moving or not) to get a ticket for something you were doing? i.e. run a stopsign then turn the corner get out of your car and walk up to a house?

Or perhaps realize a cop saw you speeding and before (or after??) you see his lights turn on, you exit the freeway, park your car and either go in a business or hide somewhere?

Please don't flame me for being ignorant, just something I've heard a few times and wanted to get clarification. Please post if you know the answer.

As soon as the cop turns his lights on, he is in persuit... trying to get away from him in any method (in or out of the car) is illegal. Now if you see him comming down the road after you without his lights on and try to "lose" him... well, then you'll probably just piss him off... but they can't arrest you for it (well depending on what you do to try to "lose" him)...

I think the "get out of the car before you get a ticket" thing stems from the cop not being able to prove who was driving...

Then again, this is not legal advice and I could be wrong so...

But what happens if you drive into a Pay and Spray? When you come out can a cop still bust you? And if they do bust you, can't you just run back to your garage and get another car out?

The name of the post should be "Dumb and Dumber". The guy gets into a rear wheel car only after having it for 5 hrs and speeds like an idiot... Then opens his head, takes out his brain, and proceeds to run from the police through traffic with a passenger. I mean if I was the cop, I would have broken his ass into about 40 pieces.

Glad to hear that the passenger is okay and no bystanders or police were hurt chasing or avoiding him and that, yes, his car is impounded and he has no license to do something that stupid again. One words sums this up. LOOSER!

Did this guy think it would IMPRESS the passenger...

"Hey, man - remember me? The one who took you for that 10 minute, 20 mile drive up the interstate with that car behind us that had those flashy-things on top? Well, I'm out of jail now and I have this new car you GOTTA see!!"

I particular like this quote:
I mean, hes a nice guy and all
I think we need a whole new definition of "nice guy".

"I was just takin my new ride for a spin, I swear" I would hate to be in the passengers seat during a/any chase like that. At least he made it out of there ok. I can't imagine the same situation happening to me, and at the very least not take having a passenger in the car as a sign to pull my ass over!
