I need a new shift rod because I locktited my shift knob a few months ago for fear that it would keep loosening....needless to say, I am now in a real bind....may be forced to cut the knob and shift rod....anybody know how the rod would be installed?? would the shop have to have it on the lift or would it be a simple bolt one from the top?? how much will a new shift rod run me?? please help!!!!!!
The shifter can be removed from the top, no lift needed. The consol cover with the convertible top & hazard buttons comes off then there are three screws that hold the shifter in place.
What color lock tight did you use? If you used blue then is will unscrew but, you will need to use some force
Use a clamp wrench to hold the shaft in place and keep it from rotating, then COUNTER ROTATE the knob and the clamp. It should effectively double your torque and prevent the shaft from twisting / bending because of the offseting power on the clamp. I had the sampe problem, just keep at it.
I had the exact same problem We used a heat gun and blasted away on the shift knob until we were able to use a wrench to remove the sucker. Good luck with that.
have tried all that stuff...it really does not move...i'm thinking of just cutting the rod that's on now so i can slip the console over...then remoce the rest of that grinded off rod...how much will a new one from honda run me?? plus where is the best place to buy the spoon shift knob??
