I wonder if anyone can help on this one. I am planning on droping in two 8 inch subs in the secret compartment between the seats. Since I don't want to cut out the original compartment cover, I was wondering where I can get a replacement one. I would build the sub enclosure around this extra cover and swap it with the original one.

You can get it from Honda, but you have to buy the entire center console. It costs about $95.

Removal of the cover though is a pain. You pretty much have to remove all of the plastic interior bits in the rear tray behind the seats where the top stowes itself while down.

Getting the whole thing for 95 bux is not a problem. Having to take apart the roof well to remove the original center console is a bit much for a sub install. It's to bad I can't just remove the center console cover without having to rip apart half of the interior.

zissis,

How about this...since the subs won't be swinging down like the stock center console, go ahead and cut the stock door out at the hinges. You can carefully remove the door from the new center console you buy and don't have to remove anything from the car to do it (it's already out!) That should save you some time and heartache...

MacGyver,

Yes I can cut out the curent door, remove the door from the new center console, cleanly install the subs, and then how do I mount the new door in place? Glue it in? The original plan was to use the built in hinges and latch. In other words make it a drop in replacement. Sure I can cut holes in the curent door but it is easier to work on the door when it's not mounted in the car, and if it was removable, if I was not pleased with the outcome just replace it.

zissis,

If you do go ahead with this project, get yourself the Helms manual. It will help alot with the removal of the interior bits, and making sure you don't end up with 3 screws (and a rattle) left at the end.

Clark, seeing as the last time I had any manuals was 10 years ago when I owned an exotic auto body shop, I must ask you a atupid question ... Do you know of any place online where I can order the Helms manual? I have desided that I will go ahead with the project of creating a customized tuned ported sub that is some sort of dropin for the interior of this car. Having the specs and full manual on the internal compartment of the car and all the mesurments will allow me to design a system before riping out the interior and reverse enginearing a solution.

Thanx

zissis,

Thats a small compartment to get much cubic volume for a sub enclosure....ever consider using tactile transducers for this application? Taking all that (lockable) space would leave you with very little room for personal storage too.
Just my .02

Best regards,

zissis,

Oops, figured you just wanted a good door on hand in case you wanted to go back to stock later...didn't realize you actually wanted to use the current hinge system.

For the helms manuals, you can go to http://www.helminc.com and look for part #s 61S2A00, 61S2A01, and 61S2A00EL (electrical). You can also call them at 1-800-782-4356. The book you want will set you back about $70 + S/H.

Red Rocket,

You mean base shackers? Already have those. They are only worth anything in the REALLY low frequency range. They are an improvement, but combined with an internal sub, even the 2 8inchers or even 2 6 inch subs, they make a GREAT combo.
