Default I need some advice...

So I have the chance to trade my S2k for an Evo. My S has 47k and is an 00, the Evo is an 03 with 11k, the difference would be about 4 grand.

I test drove the Evo and the first thing I noticed was the torque, something I missed from the first day I owned the S. The stock aftermarket parts are nice too, the Recaro's are awesome, Enkei rim's look good, the Brembo's stop it very nicely, and it feels like a very solid car, from the handling to the gearbox. On the other hand it doesn't look nearly as good as an S, it isn't a convertible, and it doesn't have quite the top end of an S.

It's not as though I don't like my S anymore, but I am leaving for college next year and need something more practical, and the STi and EVO are the only cars that came to mind.

I was hoping you all could help me decide what's best.

Thanks.

I say, wait til next year and go a month with the car while you're in college. If its too impractical, then you know what you need to do. If its just right, then keep it .

For college, you need a reliable car. I think that rules the EVO out. So go get a STi .

Read the Evo long term test in the April edition of Car & Driver. You might change your mind...

I can't find it in their archives.

Can you elaborate?

I test drove an EVO before buying my S2k and was not impressed. Make sure you drive it before deciding anything.

I agree. The car is definitely held back from the factory. Similar to DSM's, and a few basic mods on there and it will feel like a totally different car. Still glad I got the S2k over a glorified econo sedan though Then again, its just my summer car, I have a seperate car for winter duty. I'd love to have an EVO or STi as a winter vehicle (maye in another year once I graduate college).

I used to own an EVO before trading it in for a used '02 S2k. That thing gave me enough problems within 600 miles that i ended up letting it go at 2000 miles. I guess it all depends on if you get a good one or not. It seems that if you go on www.evolutionm.net, there is always a thread regarding mitsubishi's absolutely crappy ass customer service. And no, i did not beat on my car.

SS2k: Don't worry about the lack of top end. A 100 dollar ecu reflash will fix all your problems and give you more power than a 2000 dollar amuse exhaust would do for our cars. One of the most attractive things about the evo is that you can get 400awhp relatively easy and utilize it because it has so much grip.

Get an '04 or '05 S2K, there is a significant difference in how torquey it feels, you may like it more.
