I Ran... And Won!!!
This morning was like any other Saturday morning. I didn't have much to do and my car was dirty from a week of neglect. So I decided to do what any other S2000 loving owner would do. Wash my baby. After I finish rubbing my baby down with the shami, I noticed some rain clouds in the distance. But I assumed that they would dissapate before they reached me.
I wasn't back in my house for 30 minutes when I heard thunder in the distance. "No, not today" I told myself. I'm not going to let it happen again. I was referring to the ritual of washing my car and then watching it rain 2 hours later. I run to throw on my clothes. I was determined to move my car to "higher ground" before the rain hit. I ran outside of my third floor apartment, which has a great view and saw a dark cloud in the distance. The view was blurry and it look like rain was less than a mile away. I rushed downstairs and jumped into my car. fiddling with my keys I thrust the key into the hole and hit the inition switch. Then was the decision. Top up or top down. Well, me being the dramitc type, I decided on top down. If my car gets wet, then I will get wet too. I immedieatey headed for the freeway, which was only about 1/3 of a mile away.
As I sped onto the ramp it started to rain on my windshield. So I sped up. I saw a hole in the cloud ahead. I sped up so quickly that I didn't even realize that I was going 130 MPH to get away from the cloud. I looked in my rearivew and saw the rain literaly coming after me. I couldn't stop, because if I did, I would have gotten slammed. Then I hit some traffic. And I had to slow down to 65 MPH. After about 45 seconds of slow moving traffic, the rain caught back up with me, but at the same time I broke free and hit it again. I kept looking up, looking for an opening to head for in the clouds. I saw one it the distance, but wasn't sure if I could make it. The clouds were closing up on me in every direction. It was happening so fast that I could think. Then I looked up in front of me and saw the darkest cloud in the world in front of me. Even worse, the on-coming traffic had their hardlights on, a clear indication that they just came out of rain. I decided to turn off, realizing that I only had a good minute before the two clouds ran into each other.
Then I saw a small parking garage that had no gate. I rushed for it just in time to beat the rain. I stayed in that garage for over 30 minutes. But hey, I saved my car!!!

OK, I'll be the kill-joy a-hole. The car can get hell-scary in the rain, especially at high speed.
I make every effort to avoid rain with my car too, but wrecking it out is NOT a great alternative to getting wet.
Just to be clear, I am not dissing the high speeds. I've been there. (and will be there again) I am just saying that when it's raining those kinds of speeds are MUCH more dangerous.
