I was right about the 2002 having a subtle VTEC experience

I drive a slightly modded Type R and the change over is much more noticeable. I know the S2000 is faster, but when i drive it it doesn't seem this way. I'm really debating switching to an S2K though. The one I drove had the airbox top off. I'm sure a header, exhaust, and an AEM would make the sound of the switchover more apparent.

Hmm....dilemas.

My 2002 kicks pretty hard into VTEC in the lower gears. Very noticeable. I have less than 1000miles on it, too, and it seems to be loosening up quite nicely.

My ex-wife bitch has a 96 Prelude, what is the difference in the feel from those that have driven both?

with all due respect, i have to strongly disagree.

my 2002 feels much stronger than my 2001 did. both in terms of below vtec power and vtec "kick". i've attributed it to properly breaking in my 2002 whereas I cheated a few times on my 01 and am pretty sure that some other knucklhead (or heads) drove my '01 prior to my purchase.

I have owned a 2000 and a 2002... and I DO notice that the 2002 has less of a 'surge' feeing when it engages vtech.. HOWEVER-- I have consistantly measured on the same road, under 'mostly' the same conditions 0-60 times with my GTech...

AND.. my 2002 is actually faster than my 2000 was, even though the surge feels less. I can run 5.1 0-60 in my 2002, and in the same conditions, same road, etc... I could best my 2000 at 5.6.

I don't think I've improved as a drive at all... infact, I have less xp in my 2002 (2000 miles) versus my 2000 model (5500 miles).

Driver? Perhaps... break in difference? doubt it... simply a difference in the engines, perhaps?

I should go on to say, that driving both-- the 2000 FELT faster. But the numbers tell the truth, I guess! I have done thus run just before our AUTO-X's here... in the same location, around 80-90f degrees.

No two cars are alike. Some are manufactured with more exact tolerances, some are not yet completely broken in, some have map sensor issues, slipping clutches...etc. It doesn't matter if you're driving an 00, 01 or 02 some will out perform others. Unless someone can prove otherwise there are no discernable difference in performance between model years.

ever had a car with a gifted motor? my friend's GSR is gifted (or so we believe). it was driven by an old grannie until 33k miles when it was sold to my friend. we believe it is a combination of the superb construction of the this particular motor and the fact that grannie broke it in for 33k miles for him.

That's because your wife installed a Comptech supercharger on her 2000 and didn't tell you!

I have a 2002 with about 1700 miles on it. I do notice a "surge" in power and a change in sound at 6000-6500 RPMs. You can definitely tell something is happening.
