I smell bacon!
Damn. I mean, it's not like I was going that fast. Looks like I have to slow down just a tad for the next 90 days.
And I blame Honda. I mean, if they had actually put some thoughts into designing the cockpit and put a friggin' electric outlet in the front of the car, I would have had my radar detector out and working. I just hate having to string that power cord through the interior (and I am sure there are some safety issues when you try to change gears).
Anyway. Can I just ask you guys what you are doing for "protection"? Have you hard-wired a detector into the car? Installed an additional outlet? String the cable through the car's interior? Anything else?
And while we are on the subject, the detector I have is about seven years old (still works!), and I am sure there have been some techonological advances since then. Any recommendations in terms of must-have features or brands/models?
<sigh>
At least it was a cheap ticket. Do I add this to the total cost of the S2000?

Sorry about the ticket, but stop your whining...it's Honda's fault you drove too fast and didn't see the police?
Hard wiring a V1 or Passport 8500 takes about 30 minutes at most. Instructions are on this site's FAQs.

Nah, I wasn't really moaning about getting the ticket. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime, right? But the lack in planning in designing the cockpit was the first (really the only) gripe I had when I got the car. It doesn't detract from the fun I have with the car, of course.
I did see the pictures in the FAQ section, but I was just wondering if someone could post additional ones (less zoom). Where are the detectors installed (left, right, top, bottom, windshield, console, under the hood, wherever), and what do other drivers (read: cops) see of them as you pass by?
Oprah said it, it must be true!
Ulrich, the Valentine 1 is the best detector I have ever used or owned. It's a little pricier, but it pays for itself in no time. <wink wink> The latest version is even a little slimmer than the previous one, which is the one I have.
I have taken out my sunvisors and put it in front of me. It mounts to the windshield with suction cups and while I'm not crazy about the mounting method, it works and has never fallen off. I have run a power cable from the detector through the A-pillar cover and under the cover over the sill and to the cig lighter. Many have hardwired theirs, but I have been too lazy...I will do that very soon, tho.
You can check mine out at our next meet!

Mine is installed next to the rear view mirror (touching the windshield frame garnish - next to the map lights), yes it can be seen from behind and the remote display is by my left knee seen through the spokes of the steering wheel when driving straight. Only issue is when you make a 90 degree turn. I can turn off the display on my radar detector so no one from behind can see the lights. In this position ANYONE who tells you it is a stealth install is full of BS.
S2K3132 here in Phoenix installed his like ReedZ (do a search for ReedZ and RADAR for instructions) where the Valentine is mounted by the aeroscreen and remote display near the right leg by the radio. This is the closest to "stealth" I have seen, but it sticks out like a sore thumb just as much as the windshield when you look into the car and talk to the driver as any police officer would.
I do not have photos of the installation, try s2000.org for another perspective, if the ReedZ approach does not work for you either.
If you have a 7 year old detector (that is not a V1) you are probably going to have to wire to the windshield.
