You don't need to hardwire it. I run the wire under Rick's leather console cover. No shifting problems at all.

I've seen plenty of other reviews that put the V1 way ahead of the 8500.

The Car & Driver test last February put the Valentine way ahead in useability and detection range. This just shows that it all depends on how you test, I guess. Read the actual test methods used and decide for yourself.
