I think I got scammed need help.
I sent off a money order for a part for my car to a person in IL. We had been exchanging emails quite a bit so I figured that the guy would be somewhat trustfull in fullfilling his part of the bargain.
However, I sent him my money order for the part and just today I found the money is cash but now I all of a sudden get no replies from him. I think I just got had. I have the address to the place i mailed it and a name. The place is about a 7 hour drive from lexington ky to there.
Anyone have suggestions or advice of what i could do? Any legal way to pursue this or should I just drive up to IL?

I say give him a week or so to respond (maybe he's on vacation, etc.) If nothing, go find this guy, or maybe someone on this board who lives out there can check it out for you?..???
Good luck.
Good luck.
Well, the money order was for $200, and yeah i'm willing to drive 7hrs to get it. Anyone here from the chicago area that can help? He's located in Lake Villa,IL. I just want to try to find a "more gentle" way of getting my money or product before I resort to anything else.
Well I wouldn't drive up there... I would hate to drive 7hrs and still not get your money. I would send a CERTIFIED letter with an invoice with a due date. With a certified letter you will have a court approved legal document showing that he received you invoice and it is past due. You can charge interest and any legal fees (which include your time!) to get you $200 back. I would do some research on small claims court. If you are willing to put the time into it then this is the way to go.
I had a buddy do this over a part for a motorcycle. He took the guy to small claims court and won. It took a long time, but he told me it was the best feeling in the world to get his money back plus have that guy pay him extra for interest and legal stuff.
This may not help as much as using a bag of pennies (which is also good), but I hope it is a different option for you.

i've given money to both of these guys in Illinois, and haven't gotten responses from either one.
