Default And I Thought My Dealer Was Cool....

Well, in case some you forgot, I recently lost power to the radio and was subsequently locked out becuase I did not have the code. The dealer wanted $140.00 to pull the radio and get the code. I was tempted to do it, then I looked on Lucid's webpage where he explains how to remove the radio. I printed off the directions and went to work. 15min later, I had the code. What the hell was the dealership going to charge for? 15min, start to finish. I hate to join the anti-dealer bandwagon, but I am card carrying member of the "dealers suck" club!

The security code is on the back of the radio. You give that to the dealer and they can tell you your anti-theft code. I had the same issue after HIN, but my security code was also stickered inside my "glove box"

The $140 is probably a standard charge across the Honda line. While the S2000 radio takes no time to take out (takes me less than 2 min), other older Honda models require the whole console to come off. I imagine the new ones like that of the new Accord is even more labor intensive.

So, basically what you telling me is that. A theft can stear the radio, then look up the owner's basic information from DMV then call the dealership to get the code?

Man, that sounds way too easy...

just some info...there was no sticker anywhere. I bought the car used. There was no sticker on the radio (to my surprise) nor anywhere else on the car.
