i-vtec vs vtec
My wife's '03 CR-V has the same i-VTEC engine that is in the Acura TSX, just tuned more for torque and less for HP. With a (four-speed) automatic, it's a great engine to move that heavy little SUV. It's a significant improvement over her '98 Accord 4-cylinder VTEC (ULEV) with a four-speed automatic, probably a fair comparison.
For S2X00 and motorcycle engines, I would have to try them out. I expect that the entertainment and excitement is far less in the i-VTEC with a six-speed manual.

a HUGE part of the S2000's personality and certainly one of the most notable of the many things which make this car unique, is the dramatic VTEC switchover. it gives people who aren't expecting it a huge grin, and I love it! if iVTEC smoothed that out, or took it away entirely(read:new Civic Si) I would be pissed and think that the S2X00 lots a large part of its soul.
then again, if it just made the system better at doing what it's designed for(to up low end torque without sacrificing top end, and allowing for more aggressive top end tuning) without losing the dramatic step, I'm all for it. IE: RSX-S (iVTEC) vs. the old Integra GS-R(VTEC)

i like the standard vtec system since i like the big change. like if you're driving normally, it gives you good gas mileage and is almost like driving a civic. when u get on it, the vtec engagement reminds you that you're a true sports car. on the other hand, ivtec can offer better gains but i dont really care.
