really! wow I was informed that the convertible top(motor and all) wieghed 60lbs!!!!, and that the hardtop by itself weighed in at 40lbs.
I'll buy that it weighs 60lbs. All of the metal bars to support the actual roof are heavy. You won't be losing those though, only the motor.

If you want to save 12lbs, take out the spare tire or get a CF hood.

And a carbon fiber hood prop. That would save you like 50 grams man...

If you take the motor out, there would be (assuming) no restriction on how fast the top goes down. So while you are sliding the top off, if you slip the handle and it falls, you risk shattering the fragile rear window.

I also believe that the motor puts leverage on the top while it is down. (To keep it down) Those elastic straps are a pain in the ass on some mornings for me, causing my top not to go down all the way. (Simple solution is to put it back up completely and put it back down usually)

All this for 12lbs? Might as well drive naked.

had a good idea.
This is somewhat debatable.

Plus it'll make closing and opening the top while driving easier.
You must have arms the length of a gorilla to be able to safely reach back and pull that top up and over your head. OK, let's say you do. Please don't drive anywhere near any of us when you do this. I can just see you weaving all over your lane as you latch/unlatch each side of the top and pull up/push down on it while moving. I'd sooner see you talking on your cellphone.
