Default Idiots at Speed Lube

Ok, don't flame me because I didn't change my own oil, I plan to start at the next oil chg when I go synthetic. Anyway, I went to Speed Lube the other day and the guy was all complimentary and stuff, like, wow is that an S2000. But he was obviously mechanically inept. He asks me if the car has VTEC? duh, then asks me if I got a performance package with it. Hello, the car IS a performance package. Then asks if it's a manual or automatic....I'm thinking...just change the oil please.

Then I proceded to ask him to please be careful and try not to get it dirty or oily as I just detailed it. Then he fills the windsheild washer resevoir and drips that junk right across the fender....then goes to wipe it off with his dirty, oily shop towel....I'm like, come on, be careful.

Then while filling up the oil, he drips that across the fuse box. I'm like, could you *please* be a little more careful. So I finally get in the car to leave and there's a big oil thumb print on both the door and the start button.

Normally, I would think they were trained to avoid getting ANY dirt/oil/whatever customer's car but especially when I kindly ask him before he starts to be extra careful.

Going to the quickie places is not smart to begin with. They are generally filled with incompetent people that can't even handle the basics of an oil change, not to mention they practically try to sell you a new car.

That is being careful at those places. When they are not careful, you end up with more oil then you should, the wrong weight, a stripped out oil plug and an oil filter with old gasket material. They probably don't put some oil on the rubber seal as well, what filters do they use, FRAM?

If he was "obviously mechanically inept", why did you further continue with the oil change?

I would have stopped him at the windshield fluid spillage! Course I wouldn't be there in the first place, because if something gets f__ked up I want it to be my fault.

I never undeestand people who take their cars to quickie places. We are talking about few $ here. I rather deal with dealership than those quick lube places. (meaning i would pay extra few bucks for peach of mind)

Unless my s2k requires major work, I'm doing my own fluid changes. Including tranny and diff.

Nothing wrong with using a cheapo place as long as you watch them closely to make sure things are done right. Aside from the rubbing of the oil on the seal, you can pretty much see anything else. And if your oil cap is off, you should notice a ton of oil behind you on the road.

Been doing it for years. I tried to change my own oil a few weeks ago, but the car started to make odd creaking noises...like stress sounds after I had jacked it up appropriately.

There was no way I was getting underneath the car, because I thought it would be unsafe. So I ended up with $120 of newly purchased oil changing supplies / equipment. I took the oil I wanted to "Oil Changers" and had it done in about 10 minutes.
