just wondering about the question above, because i'm planning on painting my brake calipers and it said it's best to bake it. now.. i don't wanna take off my calipers and the bottle said u can leave the car on for a hour and it'll heat up. true? do i have to drive around and do hard braking or can i just leave the car at idle?

If this is a serious question (and it's hard to believe it is), the calipers will not generate any heat with the car at idle. The friction of braking produces heat which raises the temperature of all the brake parts -- rotors, pads, calipers, and the like. Problem is, if you track the car, the heat generated from hard, frequent braking is so great that it will burn almost any paint off -- including powder coating.

I wouldn't suggest leaving the car idling for an hour... bad idea.

This is a serious question:

Why is it bad to idle a car for an hour? or for that matter for 10 hours?

I'm not a mechanic, so please inform me.
Thanks

You have the answer for your question but I wanted to address something else, and that is painting your calipers. I wanted my calipers BLACK for the longest time but powdercoating costs and shipping methods scared me.

I eventually saw where Dave (w1ngman) painted his entire valve cover with yellow "high-temp" paint. It looked fantastic (still does) and I pondered on using a black "high-temp" paint for my calipers.

CLICK HERE for the post on my calipers and COMPLETE PICS!

This is the same paint you can purchase at any auto supply store for painting an engine block and the paint will be labeled "HIGH TEMP."
