Can some of our S2000 owners from the great-white-north confirm any of this?

After a quick look into trusty old Helms, it doesnt appear to be an easy plug in to get a US car to have DRLs controlled similarly to Canada (using the Honda module). There is the DRL module, plus at least one additional relay. The wire colors going into the light assembly is different, so the harnessing is probably different. You may be able to splice in a connector that will match, but that sounds like more trouble than you want.

The easiest way would be to add some fog lights and wire them up so that they come on when the parking brake is released, and the headlights are not on. The next easiest would be to make a module and control the 21watt amber turn signal lamps as DRL (this is definitely the coolest looking DRL, and I probably have one of a very few) or a module to replicate the Honda module to control the high beam lamps.

S2WOOOW - you have to be careful using the amber turn signals as daytime running lights. I believe it's actually illegal to have only thos on when driving. A friend of mine actually got a ticket for driving with his parking lights on.

Then I guess all those new Vettes, Camaros, and Firebirds are illegal, huh?

When I was learning to drive in the early 60's, it was illegal to drive with your parking lights on. That was before dirvers regularly used lights during the day. I think the theory went, if you needed lights, parking lights didn't do it. You just never had lights on during the day. If you did, people flashed their lights on and off to let you know you made a mistake. Times change. I think running lights or headlights on during the day would be smart.

The change is that we have better electrical systems (generator vs alternator; radios that use very little power, I remember vacuum tube radios; alarms that warn us of lights on when ignition is off; automatic shut-off for lights, etc.), batteries that hold an amazing amount of cranking power. We're not so afraid of running out of juice now a days!

Life is good.

My accident in my black s2k happened because the driver of a pickup truck didn't see me and pulled out in front of me. I'm wondering after reading this thread if he would have noticed me had I had the lights on.

Surely there's some electronics guru on our forum who could come up with a daytime driving lights mod(ule?)?

When did your buddy get the ticket. I thought that they were illigal too, but I see too many GM (Vettes, F-Birds and minivans) cars with them now. It seems like they are about the same brightness, at least 15 watt bulbs. Maybe the law changed. I figure that the worse I get is a fix-it ticket, and it's a 5 minute job to reconfigure to stock.

Those little blue piercing lights stick-out like sore thumb! Very hard to miss.

I was recently involved in the S2 VA/MD/DC meet. I think the most incredible site I've ever seen anywhere in terms of auto's, bikes, etc. was watching in the rear-view (25+) S2's (all with their blue lights on) making a left turn in formation. Awesome! Would have made great video footage. How about (25+) S2's catching air off a hill, one after another with blue beamers on.....
