My friend got the ticket a few years ago, but it was more due to a cop just being in a bad mood or something. It was early in the morning and he was pulling out of his driveway with only his parking lights on. A cop down the street from his house saw him and pulled him over. Until he got that ticket, I didn't know it was illegal to drive with your parking lights on.

Not sure if the law has changed or not.

Interesting tidbit.... In Canada, the Miata's daytime running lights use the parking lights on bright (front only). The new Dodge minivans use this method as well.
------------------------
For Mark and Ron: ".....Seldom enforced in California, it is illegal to drive with only your PARKING LIGHTS on."

CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE SECTION 24800

24800. No vehicle shall be driven at any time with the parking lamps lighted except when the lamps are being used as turn signal lamps or when the headlamps are also lighted.
------------------------
OMG. Even the spellchecker doesn't recognize the word "headlamps". Conjures up images of oil and a wick in a glass enclosure!!

It never ceases to amaze me what you can find doing searches on the internet!

Clive,

So I wonder if it's only illegal in California.

No Mark. I noticed during my internet search earlier, that driving with parking lights on is illegal in several other states. I also found out that (in CA) it's illegal to put anything transparent on the headlight - which means adding that window tinting stuff to the S2K headlights is a no, no. Also, transparent devices which cover the entire license plate are illegal. (This means that wanabe is a criminal! Are you going to report him, or shall I?)

I have only just come across this thread, but for months I have figured I am driving the worlds first invisible car. I have been cut up, pulled out on, lanes changed into etc so many times I figured that maybe James Bond should be driving my car to sneak up on the bad guys.

I think I just might have to try turning on those lights, and yes this is the first silver car I have driven.

Thanks for the tip and nice to know I am not alone

Ross

Clive,

I didn't know wanabe had anything covering his plate. Does he have one of those cheesy plastic covers on the plate??? I should report him to the taste police for having bad taste
