Is it illegal to take off rear view mirror??

Default Is it illegal to take off rear view mirror??

I am goign to install a 7 inch lcd in my visor and a camera in the back as a rear view. I want to take off my rear view mirror! is it illegal?

You've got two mirrors on the sides. IANAL, but I would think that should satisfy the requirement. It's all semi drivers use.

Yeah but too many drivers don't use the mirrors they have. Removing them isn't the way to make it better...

Should be fine, otherwise wouldn't all box vans and trucks with canopy's be illegal???

In California, you can paint/tint the rear window black as long as you have mirrors on both sides of the vehicle. The rearview mirror is useless in this case.

You have to ask yourself how far you are willing to take it. While what you are doing is similar to what some manufacturers are doing, they are also the manufacturer. If a cop was looking for a reason to pull you over, that very well could be the reason. You can do all the explaining in the world and the cop just won't care. Now it is up to you to prove it to a judge. When you get a ticket, you are not innocent until proven guilty; you are guilty until proven innocent.

The question if the LCD is considered to be similar to a TV would be the next hurdle.
