But it is up to the cop to make that decision. If they want to write a ticket, they will.

Have you ever heard of someone getting pulled over with HID

yah the lcd screen would function as a rear view mirror as well as to display mp3 information. No vid's or anything........ I thin i'td be badass. There's a bunch of stuff on ebay that people are selling.. .. like 200 bucks for a 7inch lcd with a mounting bracket for a sun visor.. it looks so simple too! my dad and i could do it! and the camera can't be that hard... I think keeping the rear view mirron in the trunk is a good idea. i'd just love to get rid of the rear view mirror..!! it'd be super sweet! What do ya'll think?

! Or how big the mirror has to be. You could probably have a mirror the size of a thumnail that would give a view of 200 feet of highway behind the vehicle. You wouldn't know what you were looking at, but that wasn't an explicit requirement either. Maybe you could put this little mirror somewhere on the side of your door at an angle that would enable you to see you lcd monitor (and thus the road) in the mirror? Sure a cop COULD give you a ticket if he wanted to. But if you show up in court well dressed, humble and polite and prepared to convince the judge that your lcd monitor is satisfying the intent of the law of not the letter . . . I would expect that you'd get off, even in Texas. And it can be quite an experience making the cop take the stand and cross examining him. Maybe even worth the cost of the ticket if you lose.

That would be a civil violation where you see a magistrate and not a judge. In civil court there are no judges. If you get a ticket and lose or fail to appear, you can appeal and see a judge. This is where a lawyer comes in and you can cross-examine the officer. In civil court, you address the magistrate and no one else.

It is the convincing part that will get you. Some magistrates/judges do not listen at all. If you are young, you are guilty. Well, in civil court you are already guilty unless you can prove your innocence.

I am just stating facts. Your typical traffic violation you see a magistrate and you are guilty until proven innocent. If you get a ticket for reckless driving or DUI, then you see a judge and get a hearing. If you lose and you appeal, you then see a judge.

Most judges/magistrates hate getting a ticket as much as anyone else and thus tend to let people believe they are doing them a favor by letting them off with only a fine and no points. That is what they are after anyway, your money.

Do you have magistrates where you are? If you do, what do they do? Could you tell a magistrate apart from a judge?
