I'm in Hawaii and...
I'm the original poster. My post was meant to be mostly humor, not judging anyone.
I guess in a way I'm just jealous they live/drive in paradise.
I tend toward hyperbole, so please excuse my harshness in the post. It was meant to underscore the irony, but apparently came off as judgemental criticism.
I'm with you guys on the too hot to go top down, but it ain't like that here. Its not hot at all. No humidity, and low 80's (that I've been here).
When I said one of the coolest sportscars ever built, I meant by the traditional definition of the term, small, compact 2 seat convertible, front engine, fun to drive. Cars like Spitfire, MG, or more modern versions such as Miata, Z3/4, etc.
S drivers have a bit of a rep for going top down in conditions when all the sane people kept their convertibles at home, let alone dropped the top. So to see so all but one driving around auto paradise roofed in was a shocking irony.

I resemble that! I have the top up when the storms have a name. My air conditioner works good so Atlanta heat and sun do not make me put the top up. My heater works good so I am top down above 50°F. Wife does make me put the top up if we go out on the interstate in 50° weather.
We just spent 5 days in Maui and, except for a red AP1 we saw parked by a sugar plant, the others we saw (2 white and 1 black) were all top down. I would spend major bucks to somehow rent one there!
I saw several in the western part of Maui (Lahaina) including a nice Suzuka by the Japanese Buddhist temple. According to my wife, I was whining that I was stuck with a Mustang 'vert that week.
WE drove with the top down, enjoyed the low 80's, low humidity and twisty roads that were surprisingly not crowded.

S owner from oahu checking in...
It's hot, not dry oven hot. Like nuts sticking to your leg hot.
I drive around mostly top down but it's mostly because gas is pushing $5/gallon here. If you grew up here like me the scenery is nothing new, obviously, I live on an island.
