Once again, I decided to be a drag strip guinnea pig for the S2ki community
I've always had fears about doing damage to the drivetrain, so I decided to make last night the final trip. Frotunately, I beat my personal best time by a little bit. Now, it is time to call it quits. The only kind of racing I'll be doing in the future is autocross and road racing
Before getting to the results-- first, my car is stock + Injen CAI. A lot of people may be wondering how much the CAI helps, however it's difficult to quantify. Here's what I've seen: My first time at the track, I was bone stock, and went with Austin_S2000, who was stock + Injen CAI. At that time, we both ran 4 or 5 times with ET's of between 14.7 - 15.2. From what I've seen and heard, most people do poorly at the drag strip on their first visit.
Our next visit to the drag strip seemed to confirm that theory. I had added the CAI, and Austin_S2000 was unchanged. Right away, we both started running consistent 14.0-14.3. So, I can't say what part was driver improvement and nerves, or what was due to the CAI mod.
My gut feel is that the intake is helping shave off between 0.05-0.1sec in the 1/4. By the way, I believe that my drag racing skill is only average, and any S2000 owner who flogged their car at a drag strip a few times could duplicate these numbers. This was my fourth and final trip to River city raceway in the S2000.
My best run of the night was a 13.79 @ 102MPH, with a 2.27 60 ft. I had too much tirespin on the launch, but every shift was solid and dead on, with the rear end kicking out a little on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.
In case you're interested, here's a table of the rest of my runs for the night:
ET______Trap speed___60 ft_____comments
13.79_____102.04_____2.27
13.87_____100.98_____2.23
13.88_____101.35_____2.19_____tried doing burnout before start, bogged launch

Also, on my last run, the guy working the line said, if I ever go back I have to bring a helmet
Originally posted by integrate damn, nice numbers, especially with a 2.27 0-60ft.
What's the fastest 0-60 any S2000 has gotten so far?
Thanks! I also think the 2.27 is pretty bad. I've hit 2.15sec myself before and read that others can get 2.10sec on the 60 foot. The tires I were using are the Kuhmo Ecsta 712s, which as you know have a hard compound and not much grip when cold.
I still believe that with a better driver than me, stock S-02's, and the CAI that I had, a low 13.6x could be attainable. My launches all night were less than impressive, but my shifting on that one particular run were just nearly perfect. I'll leave it to someone else to prove it, though.
Pretty much all the launches were done at 6250RPM. I've experimented enough at that track, under those weather conditions, to know that any faster has too much tire spin, any slower risks bogging. But you can't just mash the gas, the throttle had to be feathered just right until you feel the tires hooking up.
I'm convinced more than ever now that the S2000 is very temperature sensitive, both with and without the CAI. I am positive beyond a shadow of a doubt that these times would not be reproducable in the hot Texas summer. Maybe not even 70-80 deg F.
To those of you still dragging your cars, be careful and good luck!
