I do not condone driving that fast on public roads, but with no traffic at that time he did not endanger anybody other than himself.

This is how ABS is supposed to work, your wheels will not lockup during hard brake so that you can retain control of your car with steering wheel.

Can we say, "Cruise control?"
Ha ha... funny you mention it, but I've found that the times I've been on cruise control are the only times I HAVEN'T noticed a cop tailling me. I'm much better at scoping my surroundings when I'm in control of the gas. For me, cruise control=paying less attention, so I never use it
That's interesting, I guess I never looked at it that way.

For me, since I'm on the cruise control and not doing anything overtly illegal, speed wise, I'm not really looking for them. Oh, I see the car coming (or in the mirror) but I don't necessarily recognize them as police until they're well within a distance that they'd have had me nailed if I was speeding excessively.

On road trips, I tend to run posted limit plus 5 mph. I've never been hassled with that. To each their own!

Drive Safe,
Steve R.

The S2000 has some of the shortest stopping distances from 80-0 and 60-0 of any production car made. I think there are around <10 cars that do a better job. Most of the people who track their S2000s (including me) get by fine with race pads, SS lines and good fluid. For those of you who appear to think the S2000 has sub optimal brakes, what problems have you actually had?
Off a January 2004 Road and Track:
60-0 braking:

108 Evo
109 Enzo
110 Modena
111 STi
112 M3
113 Z4
113 Crossfire
113 SL500
113 Boxster
114 Z06
114 Viper SRT-10
114 RX-8
115 MR2
115 XJR
116 GT2
116 M5
116 Boxster S
116 Saab 9-3 Vector
117 911 Carrera
117 Ford GT
117 G35 coupe
117 NSX
117 CLK 55 AMG
117 Touareg V8
117 S2000
118 E55 AMG
118 C32 AMG
118 S4
118 RS6
118 IS300

And this was one year ago.
Lots of cars with better brakes than the S2000.
Compared to regular econoboxes, sure the S2000 has awesome brakes.
But to people who also cross-shop the others on this list, it's nothing special... it's expected.

anyways, i think to even be on that list within feet of some of the greatest cars of our time is great in my book

9 ft is a hella lot of distance ... the difference between saved your a$$ and the morgue. Break early and keep those rpms above 6K through the turn. The S is not the ultimate car, but it's the most fun car I can afford.

If you brake hard enough to get into the ABS you screwed up.

If you apply the brakes firmly, but don't STAND on them, and by that I mean apply the brakes to the point JUST before you loose control, you will stop SOONER than skidding with ABS on. ABS does NOT shorten stopping distances under normal circumstances.
ABS significantly reduces stoping distances; just look at any test of stopping distances, non ABS cars are alot worse than those with ABS. Just recently for example, Motor trend did a test of the three Evo's, and the RS, the stripper without ABS, had the worst braking performance despite being the lightest.

Maybe cross-shop wasn't the right term.

Here's what I meant: as S2000 owners look to upgrade, move on, or add to their stable, often they will pick from the list.

There are a bunch of guys who have S2000s and M3s, even more who have traded their S2ks for M3s.

Another handful that have moved from S2000s to Z06s.

My wife has selected the S4 as our next family car (what a gal... she said NO slushboxes in our garage).

So maybe not cross-shop as in: "Hmm, maybe I'll buy an S2000... or maybe a CLK 55 AMG."

I'm sorry, but it's been argued by a few BRAKE SYSTEM ENGINEERS that braking systems do not shorten stopping distances. TIRES DO.

I'm willing to bet EVERY ONE of the cars listed with shorter stopping distances had wider tires, stickier tires, or BOTH when compared to the S2000.

Urrr ... I think its the combination of both But definitely braking systems make a huge difference in slowing the wheel down. That said, the S2000 stock still stops pretty long compared to lots of other cars stock.
