It's the redline that makes all the power.

hp=(RPM*Torque)/5252
800hp=(19000*T)/5252

So 221 ft/lbs of torque at 19,000 make 800hp. The S2000 with a 9K redline make power in a similar way.

Yes, this alone would get us into the 500hp range. It's a great way to make power, but the low torque is unamerican . Just as we've gone to distributerless ignition systems, we could also go to camshaftless valves. Imaging electronically opened valves. Not only would this give you the perfiect cam durations and angles for every rpm, but without a valvetrain to spin the redline goes way up. I'd guess this is the future.

That's true and all but you still have to flow enough air at 19k to make it and that's where the technology comes in.
