You are looking to buy a used S2K and you find two identical 2002's, they are both the color you are looking for and both of them have 25K miles. The only difference is that you are aware that one of the cars had the quarter panel replaced after a minor collision.

Assuming the damage is not perceptible do you feel that the damaged car is worth less? If so, how much of a price difference would you feel the properly repaired car should be discounted if any?

This is a hypothetical but I'd appreciate some thoughtful responses. TIA

I would say that it is worth less because it is already worth less now in retail than the clear stook. Its a matter of preference, I mean if it looks good to you and drives right etc. and has a clean bill of health it should sell for about 2k less I would guess.

Complete shot in the dark though.

yes, it's called diminshed value. it can reasonably assumed that the materials, although of high quality, and work, performed to a workmanlike standard, are not identical to that done at the factory at the time of manufacture.

i'd expect a $1K to $2k discount, relative to an unblemished vehicle, for the minor body work. if it was more than a simple panel replace, i wouldn't even consider it.

$0.02

With the market the way it is I would think that the car will sell for the same price as long as it was only a panel replacement of factory fit. If the panel is of non OEM part then 1-2k less is not unheard of. If it was a factory part then chances are the price will not drop.

I would rather own a car that has not been in an accident vs one that has.

you could always buy a car that is said to have never been in an accident and later find out 1/2 the car has been repainted and the fender has been replaced like me!
