Default Importing s2k from japan?

Hey guys, just signed up to this form and it is very nice, very beneficial!
i'm 19 years old and currently own a gen8 civic and dying to own an s2k ( currently saving up like shiz for it)
Just wondering, would anyone know if importing an s2k from japan is reliable? I'm currently checking out www.cartradeview.com and they hav really cheap deals, in aus, buying an s2k with about 100,000km on the clock will cost me about 28G's AUS. vs. 15 G's from japan including import cost.
So, is it legitimate/reliable?
(i would cry a river if i sent over the dosh and no car came )

Hope you get to realize your dream!

You should probably post this question in the Aus forum though. There's probably a few folks who have studied this question in the past.

Why would you import an S2000? I'm under the impression they're sold in Australia already, so why not buy a domestic one?

^^ Looks like there is a $13k AUS difference in cost between a used s2k already in Aus and a used s2k in Japan.

Well if you import one from Japan don't you have to pay import tax anyways? That's probably why a new S2K cost as much as it does in AUS in the first place.

I would think Japanese S2000s are as reliable as S2000s from anywhere else. I guess it all comes down to how it was driven and maintained though.

G/l on your search and welcome to the board!

I personally won't import car unless you have done full research before and accept the risk involved.

I know someone that bought car from Japan and it went all pear-shape. Not to scare you or anything but as you can't inspect the car personally, you are essentially buying the car blindly and at the mercy of the seller. But then in saying that, most of the time, the purchase goes smooth as butter. Check reliable and reputable importer such as imports101 for example.

I suggest save a bit more and get it locally instead.

thanks alot for the replies guys!
verdict: I will be looking deeper into it! and overall i'll probably be taking the risk to save about 12 grand. Hopefully i'll be able to broaden my connections and find someone in japan to check out the car i'm interested in.
Thanks Guys
