There are probably lawyers available that you might utilise for an hour or so that could advise you on all paperwork and the precautions you may need to take with a transaction like this. The cost wouldn't be that great considering the total money at risk and would be a tremendous load off your mind knowing that you are at least going about it the right way.

I know someone that bought car from Japan and it went all pear-shape. Not to scare you or anything but as you can't inspect the car personally, you are essentially buying the car blindly and at the mercy of the seller. But then in saying that, most of the time, the purchase goes smooth as butter. Check reliable and reputable importer such as imports101 for example.

I suggest save a bit more and get it locally instead.

I guess there's always risks buying stuff site unseen, same with people buying cars via e-bay, autotrader, etc... $12k is a lot of money though!

But I agree, just be careful and do your due dilligence.
