Default Impressions of the Covercraft Weathershield

I just received my new Covercraft Weathershield and let me pass along a few impressions.

First as a means of background, I have no garage or car-port. My Suzuka Blue baby sits all day and night in the rain and wind and sun at the mercy of the Elements and of thousands of flying and crawling digestive systems. I hate that. It gets coated with greenish pollen and smeared with tree sap. And, to add insult to injury, I read thread upon thread about how many times such and such has Zaino'd his S or that such and such has never even DRIVEN in the rain. It makes me feel horribly. I'm neglecting that which brings me so much joy. Don't get me wrong, I wash and wax and wash and wax and...and it's getting a bit less satisfying, like maintenance where there once was happiness. Why don't you build/buy a garage or car-port, you ask? Good question. I would but there are building codes, something about Historical Neighborhood and maintaining the true architectural integrity of the environs, etc, etc. AND, if all that isn't enough, none of the hospitals wherein I work have any covered parking. So it sits all day in the baking sun or dirty rain, or, indeed, in Arkansas, in the dirty sunny rain.

So I decide to get a car cover. Reasonable I think. It arrives. I try it out. Nice fit. Great fit actually. There's a little tented bit for the antenna. Cool. It takes all of 3 minutes to put it on and about the same to take it off. Great.

So I go to work. Park and cover my S. Another doc says something like "what ya got under there, a Ferrari?" and laughs. I mutter something about impulsively covering everything since my wife became pregnant (not a great retort but it was very early) and smile sheepishly. It's true, I feel a little weird about the whole thing. It's a Honda. Who covers a Honda? And I perseverate about becoming That Guy...you know, (whispering voice) the one who covers his car...he's got his priorities all screwed up...I mean, it's only a car...

But I love my Honda and I feel that it deserves to be covered and protected and this car cover does just that. So what's the problem? I guess there's no problem. Next time some lousy medicine doc asks if I've got a Ferrari under there I'm going to declare loudy "No, it's an Acura."

Joking.

So the point of this thread was to explore members opinions about car covers. Oh and to let everyone know that the Covercraft Weathershield is excellent. Great fit. Repels water beautifully. And, at least in the literature, provides superior UV protection.

My S sits in the garage when I'm at home. But when I'm at work I cover it whenever it doesn't rain. Some people probably think that's weird but I don't care. I spend a lot of time keeping it clean, and I want to protect it. Like my co-worker said, "You probably have the last laugh, because at the end of the day you still have the nicest car in the lot".

If you're securing the cover with a cable and lock passed under the car, be sure to take all the slack out of the cable by looping it several times through the eye in the cover. The nose end of the Covercraft Weathershield can blow off in high wind. The cover will flap above the car, and if there's a lot of slack in the cable, it could result in the lock bouncing against your door and scratching the paint. This happened to me.

Forget about other peoples criticism of the cover. If another doctor want to park his shitty boring Mercedes under the bird crap, that's his choice. Just tell him it's an S2000 and let him figure it out.
