Improvement of Intake & Exhaust Systems
Just bought a used 2000 and am a weevil to this 'list' but have
several questions regarding performance enhancement equipment. Hope I'm not treading on old ground. If so, apologies all around. Now..............
I live in the NW corner of Arkansas, where the roads are what
we'd die and go to heaven for. We've no emissions control check.
We've no annual inspection. Therefore........
I'd like the most efficient exhaust system I can find. Noise is not
an issue as the car isn't a daily driver and is used as a backroad strafer. I've come from having three, ground-pounding, SupraTTs
...........where HKS, Tanabe, etc. were the honkers. I'm looking
to find a catback system for the S2000 but haven't yet located
a bro' deal. Any suggestions?
The cat must go. Where may I find a replacement downpipe?
Can anyone suggest a more effective intake system than stock?
Any and all suggestions and comments from you learned cats to
enhance performance of my sled, in the normally aspirated form, will be greatly appreciated.

I would highly reccomend the J's N1 exhaust. It is a very light straight through design and for just under $1000 it's not a bad deal. It is loud, but I love it and you said sound doesn't matter. You can also get the straight pipe with it that eliminates the cat and would probably free up a little hp. As far as intakes go I would reccomend either the AEM or Injen CAI's. I went with the AEM for two reasons; their name and reputation, and the fact that it is a two piece intake so it was easier to install.
Sorry to dissapoint you but you probably won't get anything like what your use to with your TT Supra's unless you go with the forced induction route. But, good luck with everything.

Hi Brandon,
Thanks for sharing your S2000 experience with me.
Where can I purchase the N1 exhasust system?
Likewise, the AEM intake system?
I've no illusions about getting S2000 RWHP like got with the SupTTs. With ~ 1000 less pounds or so and quicker steering,
the S2000 IMO is a better strafer. The Sups were great for 60 or 80 MPH punches. Absolute brutes! : ) These racetrack-type roads out of Rogers don't allow the full use of 600+ RWHP,
especially if the second turbo's coming on in the crucial part
of a corner exit. Eoiks!!! But then, if I really want to get serious, out come the RC51, 929RR, or R1.
Again, thanks for your help.
BTW, I very much enjoyed browsing your site.

The full Spoon exhaust system starting from the headers all the way to the end of the N1 muffler. There is a test pipe included so you can have no cat like I would as well. Price is probably as much as the Mugen one but performance is no doubt excellent. Mingster can tell you more.
Keep your cat... removing it (I have found offers no extra HP) might even lose torque. I have the BackYard Special cat replacement stainless resonance-chambered pipe and I am going to sell it: I'm tired of really stinky exhaust + major black staining on my exhaust tips...
If it doesn't give you extra HP then why further damage the environment?

I'm running with the Spoon header/exhaust combo with a test pipe and there is a 'feel-able' improvement in the power of the car. The Spoon exhaust comes with a cat bypass/test-pipe.

If you want the ultimate intake & exhaust (If money's not an issue), then I'd recommend the setup I have...MG Racing carbon fiber cold air intake & Power House Amuse titanium single-outlet exhaust. It combines weight savings (both save you a total of 47.x pounds), performance, & looks (ram-air carbon fiber design & that burnt blue-ish tip due to it being titanium). Then again for $2900, it better do all that. No matter what combo you get, there's nothing like hearing (& feeling) the sweet sound of vtec kicking in w/aftermarket parts
