Default INJEN C.A.I. Installed

Wow

For anyone who's on the fence as to whether or not they should get the intake from INJEN (or AEM, I guess), Do it!

I have ZERO mechanical skills, and I was able to install it in one afternoon! I still have to cut out the fake air ducts, but other than that, I'm done. And guess what?

I DIDN'T HAVE TO TAKE THE BUMPER OFF!!!

Granted, it was a bit of a pain in the ass, but with a little patience (and just a tad bit of scraping) I got it in. Also, you don't have to take the bumper off to change/clean the filter.

This intake sounds MEAN when at WOT. If I keep it under 4K, it sounds stock, but once you step on it, you get a nice deep growl and a very large grin.

As far as performance goes, the ass-dyno shows no loss of power anywhere, and although it MAY be a placebo effect there does seem to be a little more something when starting off the line.

Aren't intakes supposed to add like 5 hp? Does the addition of intake increase wear on the engine by allowing too much dust/dirt/particles/etc into the engine? I'm looking to mod but not sure if i want to go intake first or exhaust/header

There is a dyno which shows increases as high as 15hp at a couple of points, and consistent hp across the entire range. I think the increase at peak hp was about 9hp.

The intakes use filters, so they shouldn't allow any more dust or debris than any other intake.

I haven't seen an exhaust/header increase that gave the same cost/benefit as these CAIs for $250.

Hey, Tanq - Thanks for the idea about trying it without taking off the bumper...you really saved me some time.

No problem -- I am glad it worked for the Injen CAI, too.

Tanq - Keep in mind the plots we posted were achieved on a car that already had the Spoon N1 and header package. I think the results show that with only header/exhaust, there is little gain (see stock plot) and that once the intake is upgraded, there is a nice improvement all the way across the board.

Well - Drove it to work today...I love it even more. Thanks to R&D Motor Sports for the great service...

I'm not sure if I lost it, or if it didn't come in the box, but I didn't have the 10mm bolt to hold the 'vibramount' in place...so I'll take care of that (permenatley) today.

Now....What do I do with all the space in my engine bay?

Also...know anyone who wants a 2 month old K&N?

With the AEM version, the instructions say to cut a section of the side of the undertray. You don't have to cut the fake brake duct.
