Installed windscreen lights. Pics.
LT,
cox will have to clear up any misinformation that I spew here, but there are a few differences between our setups.
For one, his circuit is fairly simple (i.e., inexpensive) (cox, I think you could reduce your parts count even more) since he is only using two colors, white and red. My circuit more complicated (i.e., more costly), but is completely adjustable in terms of color. I provide an etched PC board (see my windscreen thread for a sneak peek of the board).
We both offer disconnect abilities, cox through a DB-9 connector, me through an RJ-11 phone jack.
We both offer the brake option...his turns from white to red with the brake and mine turns from whatever color you have set to red with the brake.
He'll have to answer himself, but he may be interested in selling this is a DIY kit...I'm not. Due to the amount of work involved, I'm requiring customers to send me their windscreen which I will then modify and send back.
One option I do provide which cox currently does not is a softtop disabling system for those with increased height windscreens to prevent breaking the screen by lowering the softtop on it...when the windscreen is tilted back the softtop won't operate. This system isn't necessary for those with stock height screens.

Mac, you are almost right about everything. A few corrections:
1. If I sell this it will be on an etched PCB (in fact, it is already done and I can have it in a few days if I decide to proceed).
2. I don't think the parts count can be reduced. 3 transistors for switching - all needed. The resistors are all needed. That is all of the parts on the board. As far as cost goes, Mac's shouldn't be that much more expensive. The pots and LEDs are the only thing I can think of that would cost much more.
3. My connectors will be different for production. It will be fully removeable.
4. It will not be a DIY kit. The end users will need to send me their windscreens so I can mount the LEDs. I will also provide the option of having the windscreen etched for a little bit more $$.

I'll take a kit, or an assembled item, but sending my screen half way around the world and back is not an option.
I am going to build 5 of these for a select few people. Sorry, all the spots are already taken. Once I get these 5 done and the customers are happy, I will sell more. I just don't want to overload myself with work or feel like I have too much pressure one me to try to get a bunch of them done in a small amount of time.
Plus, these first few will allow my to square up the install instructions/finer points.
If you are interested in this, send me a PM. I will put you on a list for later (or now, depending on if any of the 5 drop out).
