Insurance is hell
What Pedalfaster said. If you really want a car like the S2K now, consider a Miata. They don't have quite the power but they handle very well, have the droptop, and I would assume are much cheaper to insure.
Try getting a station wagon now and then buy an s2k after you have earned enough money when you get out of college - You will appreciate it a lot more!
Just kidding with you - I guess if you have the means then more power to you. On a serious note, I agree that you should not keep an s2k on a college campus - Too many very bad things could happen to it!

I'm 33, so our situations are different, but:
21st century wanted a huge load of $$ for insurance on the s2000. Progressive was much better, but Geico was the best.
Progressive and Geico both have on-line quotes. Check them out.

I'm almost 27, single (getting married in Sept) in GA and I pay $1100 a year for full coverage on a '99 Miata. I've been quoted $1900 for an '04 S2000. I'm in the military and have USAA for insurance. I can't wait to get married so my rates go down. They didn't go down much when I turned 25 like everyone says they should, so maybe they will when I get married. I was paying $2300 a year for coverage on the Miata when I lived in NJ, so my rates dropped 50%+ when I moved to GA last year. I can just imagine what I'd be paying for an S2000 in NJ. $333/mo sounds pretty accurate for full coverage in CA for an 18 year old. BTW, I haven't had a ticket since I've been driving (10years) and have had one accident that wasn't my fault.
