I've seen this movie before.

A good comedy is fun to see over and over.

I'll keep my thoughts to myself about financing an 11 year old car and laying out $2400 a year to insure it.
The insurance discussion threads frequently play out more like a shoestring budget sitcom that got cancelled after the first season. Same old song with a few new lines. Everyone lists what they are paying and a few tidbits of info and none of the prices listed ever really help the original poster know if his rates are good, bad or indifferent.

I think he said his is a 2001. So that's a 14 year old car. That changes everything. I think that makes it vintage... or at least collectible.

Progressive was so much cheaper for me. I have(switching shortly) Esurance and was paying about $130 a month for the car. Adding my S2000 to my progressive auto insurance along with my mdx and legacy only adds $205 to my 6 month premium with $500 deductibles and full coverage with high limits etc.

I was added to my Dad's policy so I pay $145 a month for full coverage with high deducible, I think my limits are 150/300. but its for two cars, my daily CRV and the s2k .
Its with mercury and the s2k was listed as "pleasure"

Some people get really cheap base insurance and purchase gap, so you should be fine with them paying off your car in an event of an accident. Im not sure about medical bills though

Just in case anyone comes here looking for tips: If you're a Costco member, or a Credit Union member, they usually have programs for insurance with pretty nice discounts. And not just auto.

Living in harrisburg PA, 21, one speeding ticket, one at fault accident in the snow and a totaled wrx wrapped around a tree and my agent just quoted me $146/month for full coverage, $500 deductable. Not bad at all! My dad bought an AP2 low miles about a year ago and thing is so damn addicting. The search for an AP1 will start once I return from this deployment.

I've found Geico (which I currently use) and The Hartford to be the cheapest for me. I have also found the S2000 to be VERY expensive to ensure relative to other cars. Put into perspective, I can insure a brand new Dodge Viper for about what I can insure an 8 year old S2000 for. I am not kidding. If I upgraded to a 3 year old Porsche Boxster S I would cut my insurance rate by $150 a year over what I'm currently paying for the S2000.

Many of the people who buy these cars are reckless with them and everyone's insurance rate is going to reflect that, unfortunately.

Good luck.
