USAA saved me a bunch of money. You need to be military, ex-mil or from a family with one of these. Some others eligible too but can't remember them. GL!
Active duty officer and enlisted personnel
National Guard and Reserve officer and enlisted personnel
Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS and OTS)
Spouses and adult children of USAA members
Tell me it's wrong cuz my dad's ex-Army and if it's a great deal, I'm totally on this one.
The claim will stay on your record for 3-5 years depending on the carrier. When you call insurance companies they pull your CLUE (claim history) to see what you have claimed. Each claim is listed as collison, comprehensive, or bodily injury. Comprehensive effects you the least, and the other two effect you the most. My advice is to call a broker in your area and have them run you thru several carriers. Tell them about your accident and the situation. Tell them to quote it as a not-at-fault. Brokers are more willing to work with you because they have acces to several carriers and know what they "can do" to get you the lowest quote. The reason Geico hasn't jacked up your rate is because your allowed so many claims before they punch you. Thats my 2 cents. And yes, I'm a broker and I see cases like this daily. I would hook you up if you were in Texas.

Hey dude. On USAA's website it says you must be one of the following for eligibility:
Active duty officer and enlisted personnel
National Guard and Reserve officer and enlisted personnel
Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS and OTS)
Spouses and adult children of USAA members

the thing about USAA is it is a not for profit member organization, not a profit seeking firm, thus you pay less for that alone. also, the risk pool of members is lower than the general pop. I hear.
Also, USAA will actually help you in an accident. You can't say that about even many big companies.
dustyslider: you should qualify. that is the same way I got in. great service and rates. I have my homeowners and auto with them and saved a lot over state farm, allstate and the "low risk pool" insurers.

A while back, while I was in a store, my parked S got hit in the rear and the guy took off. Because the guy had taken off, my insurance company said that it couldn't be placed under uninsured motorist (some indiana law??), so they put the claim on my collision.
Similar thing happened to me last summer. My insurance co. said they had to cover it under collision unless a police report was filed. So I went down to the police station and filed a police report. After that, they covered it with "underinsured motorist".
But all this insurance stuff varies state-by-state. So only somebody familiar with Indiana law could tell you for sure.
