I dropped my car off at a local Honda dealer today for the 1-2 grind fix.
When I was there, I met the mechanic. Nice guy, definitely knew a lot about the S2K.
He showed me a black one(anyone here??) that just got an RM exhaust and intake with the cold air extension.

He said he had it dynoed and on average, based on numerous runs, put out 208hp(up from 193-195 I think) at the wheels. He said that the intake was responsible for the greatest increase.

Anyone with more experience can back that up?
Is it possible? I heard a few of you mention that you didn't even install the cold air extension.
Is the 208 legit?

If you read posts here you will see that the most an exhaust will give the car is 3, maybe 4 wheel horsepower.

So if your car dyno stock at 195 (as most of the S2K I have seen down here do) you won't even cross the 200 WHP mark.

That means that the intake must provide, at least another 8-10 WHP to reach the 208 WHP.
Now, that's a powerful intake system

You do the math.

Unless the car has more mods.

Yeah, it kind of sounded sketchy.

But I figured I'd ask the experts.
Thanks

We have seen over 11 HP difference from day to day with the same car on the same dyno.. maybe different operators, different conditions, or something else. Must control variables very carefully to make dyno runs worth anything. There has been no repeatable evidence that an intake of any sort is worth that much over stock. Until it is verified and the charts published I am a non-believer.

There was this article in Turbo Magazine some time ago that i read and they dynoed a stock s2k. It was something like 190.7 at the wheels..then they added an open element filter and dynoed it again and the hp at the wheels was up 10.3 for a total of 200. something or rather. It does seem kind of far fetched but imo TURBO is quite a reputable magazine.

CAIs are hard to chassis dyno properly due to the car being stationary. The best performer in a chassis dyno test of different intakes may not be the best on the road!

Weseloh Honda has a dyno. They told me that they tested an S2000 stock and without the air box. Claimed they got a 10 HP increase. I think when I first got on this board, or its predecessor, someone reported that they lost HP by removing the airbox. Weseloh seems pretty straight to me. If Weseloh is correct, that would seem to support the claim that a cold air intake, without the box, would increase HP by about 10.

What do you all think?

typically, a cai will add 5-10hp at the wheels on any car.

Except that Honda incorporated a CAI in the S2000, so where would a gain come from?
