<<Stan, excellent point. The only way to even approach an accurate dyno for an intake is to have some kind of wind tunnel or other way to simulate wind. >>

Or you could just drive the car and test performance, response, RWHP, temps and so forth on a real road using some modern equipment and sensible procedures... Don't forget that the air speed varies with vehicle speed (duh) unlike a wind tunnel. And some tricky airflow changes can occur at different speeds.

<<The best way to measure an intake's performance is to measure the temperature of the air at speed on the real road. Otherwise, it's a crap shoot...too many variables to be able to prove much of anything...>>

Not really. Temp changes are not the only variable. Things like pressure drop, resonance tuning, air filter restriction, dirt capacity, subjective sound, sound pressure level, etc also matter.

Stan

<<Except that Honda incorporated a CAI in the S2000, so where would a gain come from?>>

Assuming that the stock CAI always breathes ambient temp air then it's likely to be pretty good as far as that goes. But many other intake related things can affect the motor besides air temp. Resonance tuning, air filter and intake pressure drops (restriction) to name a couple.

If Weseloh is correct, that would seem to support the claim that a cold air intake, without the box, would increase HP by about 10.

What do you all think?

10HP gain? how about 10HP loss? i was the one who dynoed my car in 3 different configs and 6 different runs: my custom filter/adapter, no filter at all, and stock filter. all were tested with and without the top. my custom filter gained 2-3HPs, but LOST power when the lid was off (with a big fan blowing), stock filter was the same, and no filter with or without the box lost 4-8HP.

So the general idea is to leave it as is, maybe with a drop-in K&N?

Do most agree?(With the exception of going with something very expensive like the Mugen piece, or the soon to be released MG Racing CAI)

I totally agree.
Just drop a K&N in place. Best bang-for-the-buck. Unless you want a very cool filter like the Spoon(100% drop-in in the stock location) but I can imagine that it cost a lot of $$$$$.
