The AEM V1 is great and there is NO risk for hydrolock...if...you have the bypass valve and an "umbrella"...with those two things...you wont hydrolock, unless maybe you try testing your car as a submarine.

V1 is one of the better ones, but comptech isn't bad either
the bypass valve robs the HP gained.... this topic has been discussed ad nauseum.

I have the V1 and the only way it will hydrolock is if you park it in a storm and don't have something covering the drain hole under the hood and/or have the "umbrella".

You're wrong. You can hydrock from starting the car in standing water (that isn't that deep)....people have posted about it. I realize the search function is screwed, so its hard to find these post, but they are out there. I can't count how many post I've read about V1 and V2 hydrolocking and under MANY different conditions...not just driving through deep water.

tis true...but you won't hydrolock with it...

personally, I don't think you will hydrolock if you know how it happens...I know everybody knows how wet of a winter/spring the west coast had this past uhh...season...well a lot of times my car was outside, parked, getting soaked, and then I'd just start it up a drive it...I have NO protection, not even the hole that drips onto the filter is covered.

When it is wet I drive my car especially easy after start up to let the water that IS in the intake get sucked up slowly (like water injection...sort of ) I also stay away from any sort of puddles...I have had no problems...ohh and I also have the fake duct opened to allow more air/water flow towards the filter on rainy days

Understand or not, it is happening. Again, is 4hp worth the cost of replacing the engine?
