Default Intake Question...

I have been looking into getting an intake and have read loads of threads. Right now I am choosing between the K&N Typhoon CAI or the K&N FIPK. I have read on K&N's site that the CAI comes with some sort of sheild that will prevent hydrolock which is my main concern. Since the prices are relatively the same I was wondering which one you guys would recommend?

Most people here like the FIPK better, it seems. Is K&N the best intake though? Better design than AEM or Injen? I know on my RSX, it was dyno-proven that the Injen was a way better design than any other.

The reason I chose the K&N over the AEM or Injen for a CAI is because of the shield that the K&N comes with that is suppose to prevent hydrolock. Does anyone know if the shield is all that great or not?

never heard of a FIPK causing hydrolock. There are stories on here about the AEM V2 (before the valve was added I guess) sucking up water. Regardless, no intake will give serious gains so pick one that makes your conscience happy first, car happy second

^That is another thing I really like about the FIPK as well. I am pretty sure that is the one I will be getting.

Its not really that a "shield" prevents the hydrolock issue, but more of the overall design. You'll see that the FIPK stays in the upper part of the ewngine bay. The AEM style intakes drop down to the bottom of the bumper - puttung it closer to the ground/puddles.

I vote FIPK (or Comptech like mine ).

The shield I was talking about goes on the Typhoon intake by K&N which is similar to an AEM intake. It comes with some sort of shield the wraps around the filter, which is suppose to prevent hydrolock. I just don't feel safe with that so I opted for the FIPK, which I just ordered. I like the fact that it sits under the hood and not down in the fender where I would have to cut stuff.

Thanks for the help guys!

Got it. Some people make their own "umbrella" for the AEM for the same effect.

Enjoy the intake.
