Default intakes

I'm going to mod my S2000 by the end of the year. a few questions:

Can I buy a mugen or j's carbon intake without having to buy the front bumper with the intake slit? Some sites that I have been too say "slight modification is required." would i just be able to cut the bumper (no, not making my own slit) from the inside so that air can get to the intake? also i noticed that the mugen and j's CF hoods have a bump in it for the intake to clear. would the hood also have to be replaced?

I plan on just getting JDM parts for my car, so AEM, Comptech, and Injen are out of the ?.

ARC intake looks heavy and takes up space, but is also way cheaper. Any info on ARC would be nice too. Spoon sells a filter for the stock air box, is that better than the stock paper filter?

thanks.

Search is your friend, there is an extensive thread about this not to long ago so next time use it!

In short, you can still use the OEM bumper.

You will have to cut part of the underside of your OEM hood for the intake to clear.

No you do not need a Mugen or J's hood, see above.

A few here run the ARC intake but from what I've read extensive modifications are needed.

The Spoon filter is probably marginally better but I doubt you will notice any real gains.

How is the J's better than the Mugen? Both the look and the price are nearly the same.

Also, I wanted to know thoughts on Amuse vs J's products. Again, I didn't do a search on this forum for Amuse vs. J's. Mainly because my connection is sloooooow and I'm impatient for pages to load.

I think Amuse kicks ass. Even though there is no Amuse modifications done to my car right now (stock). The only reason is because the Amuse S2000 is a "Touge Monster" on BMI!!! It kicked J's and MCR S2000 ass on the touge. Amuse seems a bit pricey compared to J's.

Amuse doesn't produce an intake, they use Mugen's.

As far as Amuse versus J's... hmmmmm, good question. I'm a big fan of Amuse, afterall I brought two of their exhausts, the header is coming soon and I'm researching their ECU. I am very impressed with J's new exhaust line however and if I would have known about it sooner, I might have ordered the new J's 60RS exhaust instead of my Amuse R1.

and that's not that bad.....sorry about the crappy phone pic but you get the idea...the edges were painted then lined in something very similar to door guard edging.

Wow, thats a great idea! Wonder where you got it

Honestly I would put an intake far down on the "to do" list. Go exhaust > header > intake. The OEM intake is so efficient that it really is not a bottle neck to the system at all. Your money is much better spent working from the back end up.

In that same respect a set of decent coilovers is going to do much more for you than either an exhaust or header.
