Default Interior noise mitigation

Ok, so I'm trying to quiet down the inside of my new to me 2005, I understand it will be louder than my Charger or Ram due to the kind of car it is and the soft top, but it doesn't need to be as loud as it is. I tracked down a OEM exhaust to swap out with the HKS exhaust that is on there now but that does nothing for road noise, where is the best place to attack this? Doors, trunk or just where? And I'm not that racer guy so I do not need everything geared towards speed even though I do like to drive aggressively here and there. Just looking for a nice weekend toy that will also be doing some longer trips and the noise gets a bit old after a while.

Swapping the exhaust back to stock is going to help, but the car is never going to be "quiet" without a ton of work. You'd need to gut the interior, parcel shelf, and trunk to sound deaden all the metal surfaces. Just doing the doors won't cut it if you're after quiet, or even quieter.

Some of the road noise is attributed to tires, so check those to see what's on the car currently and see what can be changed there. The Continental ExtremeContact Sport is a tire that runs quieter, but isn't nearly as fun as a 200TW rated tire, it's all about trade offs and what you want the car to be.

I know I wont get it "quiet", never expected that, but just "quieter". The car has the Continental ECS's on it now with about 12k on them. And you lost me with the "parcel shelf" , what is that? Remember new 2000 guy here. ;-)

Parcel shelf is the plastic behind the seats where the softtop sits when it's down. It covers up a lot of stuff between the passenger compartment and the trunk.

Quieter is the issue, without covering all those areas I mentioned you won't achieve much difference. Hardtop makes a decent difference in noise, the softtop on the S is very thin, it's a big part of the "loudness" as well. I'd wait until you've got the exhaust swapped to see if you want to pursue it further, it will make a difference over the HKS.

I used to stick a raincoat & a hat back there because I knew that they would just fold up along with the top without issue.
