My S is in for it's 10K service and they are replacing the seat trim because of exactly this problem. The seat belt had actually rubbed the leather raw (friction burn) just ahead of the seat belt guide.

Don't know what they're going to do to stop it re-occuring though.

They're also replacing the seat base leather as it has discoloured unevenly. One of the panels is bright red and the others dull.
No kidding huh..I'd better check it out..i thought it might be the actual mechanism, I thought i would spray some WD40 on it..I guess i'll check the leather first..thx for the tip..

I notice the seat makes some noises too, but when you have a passenger, that noise is gone.

I had a rattle going over bumps and such, turns out the big wingnut on the spare tire was a bit loose.

I finally gave up trying to find the rattle in the right side of the dash, so when i took the car in for an oil change today i mentioned the rattle. To my surprise they fixed it! They removed the airbag cover and put some insulation in to stop the rattle. I was skeptical when i got in, but when i drove off to my amazement, the rattle was gone (at least for now). I asked if the insulation would effect the deployment of the airbag and they said "no". Whatever they did - it worked.

I too had the rattle from the rearview mirror. Sounds like it is coming from the dash until you stick your head underneath it.

My dealer is replacing the mirror today. I will see if the new mirror is any quieter.

It would be interesting to do a survey on the age of the cars which suffer various noise problems. My S2K was completely noise-free for the first few months I had it; now, after a year of use, there are at least 3 or 4 annoying creaks, groans or rattles.

My previous car (a Trans Am) was the same. It started off being noise-free, but by the time it was 4 years old it sounded like it was falling apart - especially when driving on crummy roads.

I once read that when a car is new, everything fits pretty much perfectly, but as it gets older, things start to distort in a big way due to the constant flexing of the chassis and bodywork - eventually causing wear or distortion of most of the plastic interior pieces. Hence those mysterious noises.

I've got the dreaded roof latch rattle, and really haven't found an easy way to correct it. Help?

I started hearing rattling/squeeking noise at about 15K. I am pretty sure part of the noise is coming from the seat belt - not sure if it just metal clip hitting plastic or something internal. Also, it looks like part of the squeeking is coming from the point where my top meets the front window frame. It's centralized at the passenger side. It just sounds like squeeky top. Anybody had this problem and know how to fix it? Is there a way to make the top locking mechanism tighter so I would have a tighter fit?

Just wondering.
