The more common comment I get is:

"It's only a Honda!? "

instead of:

"It's only a Honda... "

Me: "Yup "

 

Usually I only get the "its only a honda" if they have:

Not seen it,
Not driven in it, or
Don't know its specs.

When I mention the 240 HP going to the rear wheels, they listen up!!!

In the end, who cares! The car is awesome and rare...what a great combintation.

 

If possible, I'll rag on their car...

If not, I just say something smartassy like, "Yeah, that's what the 'H' stands for" - or something along those lines.

I don't know what's worse...someone hating on Honda because they are ignorant, or someone lying about what car his girlfriend has.

And what do you mean by saying BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, and Porsches are for people that don't know about cars? Are you stereotyping their owners as someone who just bought the car for the image, just as someone stereotypes Hondas as econo-boxes, and Honda drivers as 16-year-old, spiky-haired, rap-music-listening punks?

Sorry to break it to you, but there are quite a few BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, and Porsches that I would take over an S2000 without even the slightest hesitation. And there are quite a few BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, and Porsches that will absolutely hand an S2000 their ass on a track.

And yes, the S2000 IS "just a Honda." It has a typical Honda power-band, typical Honda 4-cylinder sound, Honda quality, and Honda feel in the interior. The S2000 is just as much of a Honda as an SL55 is as much of a Mercedes-Benz, as a Corvette is as much of a Chevrolet (oh God I just used SL55 and Corvette in the same sentence! ).

well, most of my friends drive honda, so they know wussup.

 

Mostly I just walk away.......but if they start in with the "I thought it was a _____ BMW/Porsche/Viper (pick one) I ask 'em why they wanna say obscene things about my car, and then walk off.

 

JoeD - I think you're missing the point of this thread. When people say "it's just a Honda," they're obviously stating it in a tone meant to offend you. Who comes up to you and says "it's just a Honda," and means nothing by it, besides stating the obvious? Why is Honda "just" a Honda? Why isn't it a Honda? A Mercedes isn't "just" a Mercedes. It's a Mercedes.

 

I would happily walk away in the comforting knowledge that there is a village somewhere missing an idiot !!
