"Its only a Honda"

Sorry to break it to you, but there are quite a few BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, and Porsches that I would take over an S2000 without even the slightest hesitation. And there are quite a few BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, and Porsches that will absolutely hand an S2000 their ass on a track.

i can't imagine anyone ever saying that to me, cuz i never brag or take pride in my s2k. i merely see it as an extremely fun and relatively inexpensive little car. but if someone WAS to say that to me, i'd reply by saying "yes, i realize that," and then ask him/her what brand of car impresses him/her. i'd then challenge him/her to find a new vehicle of that brand priced at no more than $33K and invite him/her to go on a spirited run through some mountain roads to see if he/she can keep up with me in that car.
Once they get a ride in the S2000, they change their mind.
But, I bought it because it was a Honda.
1. Incredible performance and a beautiful car! (No it's not an accord, it's an S2000)
2. Very reliable car (makes it superior to most American Brands)
3. Great fit and finish (ditto)
4. Reasonable maintenance (don't have to pay Antonio or Franz mega bucks for annual service)
When I hear it's only a Honda from someone, I know they haven't driven it and/or they are too proud to admit they got ripped off with their non-Honda product.

One of my professors said the same thing to me and I agreed wholehartedly. Yes it is only a Honda! She was bragging about her lexus a few days later and I said to her... It's only a toyota!
I usually look at them when they say, "It's only a Honda" and I say...
"Oh my God, are you serious, I thought it was a Toyota, and here I've been driving it all this time"
Then I smile and walk away.

My comment is not funny or clever, it is spoken in a condescending tone of voice, just like the one they have chosen to share with me.
I started following Formula One racing back in the Senna era. That was a time when McLaren Honda owned the world. Although Honda no longer holds that kind of supremacy in F-1 now days, they clearly have had a great deal of success in Champ Cars - CART, and all forms of motorcycle racing.
When someone says It's only a Honda... I reply along the lines that if they followed motorsports in any way, they would realize how completely wrong they are about the insinuation that Honda is not a premium manufacturer.
