Default I've got a VIN! Now how long?

My dealer calls me today to inform me I now have a VIN. Cool! Soon I will be able to sign my signature with #008525 underneath! Up until this time, I was living off hope following his news of a production date (6/6/01). He (dealer) says that it may be 10 days to 2 weeks before MY S2000 arrives on the ground at his dealership. He was not able to answer the following questions, so I'll try you guys. Question 1: Is it not true that the VIN is only known after the ship docks in port and the cargo (Call an S2K cargo? Blashphemy!) is off-loaded, meaning it's now on the ground in San Diego? Question 2: Being in the midwest (Michigan), I believe the car is put on an eastbound train destined for the Chicago area, then on a haul away truck to my local dealer. True statement? Final question: Now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, how do I survive the next two weeks? If I'm this excited with the news that it's almost here, how am I ever going to be able to handle the stress of the actual delivery process?

Yeah it should be soon. May take all of two weeks however. I had to same story. Dealer had VIN of an incoming Silver/Red. I put down a deposit. That was on a Thursday. I was told it could be two weeks. Friday I get a call the truck had arrived and the car was coming down off the truck. They wanted to know if I wanted to go ahead and take delivery or wait and have the options I ordered installed. I told them I would wait. (the longest three days of my life!!! ) My rep told me that I could come by over the weekend and take it for a spin. I told him I would wait. So they put the car at the end of the lot. No one drove the car but the service guy. Had 9 miles on the odometer. The car was ready Monday afternoon. I had the rep pick me up at my house some 30 miles away and he brought me to the dealer where I took delivery after a very close inspection. It was so sweet! What a thrill as this was what I wanted and it was the first Silver/Red that I had seen other than the pictures. So it could be any day. Congrats!

I belong in this thread. I just got a VIN on my silver/red thats coming in. Dealer said he doesn't think its in the states yet because thats when he usually gets information like dealer ETA. I think I'll be doing this --> all day now.

I could be mistaken Skorpion but it was my understanding that the VIN is assigned to the dealer when the boat docks at the west coast. So it's here in the states waiting for a way to get wherever it's going.

I'm in a similar situation. I got my VIN last Thursday. Dealer says 20-25 days before she arrives here on the east coast. VIN is assigned once car is completely assembled. You guys can PM Utah S2K with your VIN & he can tell you within 48hrs. when it'll "hit the ground" at your dealer. I'm #008417 & she'll be here on 7/26 provided nothing unforseen happens. I ordered on the 4/27 move. I'm as excited as you guys maybe more. I've been lusting for this car since August 99 but couldn't do anything till now because of current lease. I've got $4G's worth of stuff in my house waiting for her arrival. My wife's as anxious as I am to hear me "shut up" about it, thinking once it's in the garage my endless rambling will end. I'm sure it won't.....

Wow, I can feel everyone's anxiousness and I'm getting excited too! I have a deposit on a 2002 GPW and the dealer said it would be here no earlier than late October, most likely after that. Oh well, when it arrives I know it will all be worth it.

For those of you waiting please check out this link. It will offer the person picking up the car a checklist of things to "look for".

https://www.s2ki.com/faqs/showfaq.php?threadid=17410

As for the VIN it is assigned to the vehicle in Japan. Dealers are allocated vehicles. The volume of allocation for the S2000 is based on other product sales. For the S2000 most dealers issue a "Factory Order"; customer or dealer specific (i.e. what color inside and out) the customer or dealer wants. So the VIN is really tied to a factory order. Obviously there is a certain amount of shuffling that goes on both in country and out. The car is the "railed" to your Honda distribution hub where it is off-loaded onto a dealer(s) specific truck. The car is then dealer prepped which includes the items noted in the link as well as adding any dealer installed options. If you want a truly virgin Stook you can specify you take receipt in the "as delivered" condition. This will mean they roll it off the truck and don't even remove the papers covering the windows. If you are interested in this option email "The General". He drove his home with only the windshield paper off the car .

Thanks Utah S2K! I had previously printed off the article you mentioned together with the letter to the dealer asking them for consideration when prepping/cleaning the car prior to delivery. I believe I'll let them remove the paper for me though! This entire site is an incredible resource for S2K information. I've said it before and I'll say it now; preparing my home, my life, and my libido to welcome this new car has been made so much easier THANKS to the input from everyone here! I look forward to the "ownership experience" and the camaraderie of fellow members.
