A high-performance vehicle built and sold by a maker like Honda, known more for their "practical" cars, was doomed to ultimate failure, in terms of units sold. At my local Honda store the S2000 was usually on the showroom floor next to the BMW Z3-4, as the same dealer sold both. The average buyer looking for a Honda would not usually look at the S, and the average buyer looking for a roadster would not normally look at the Honda rather than the Beemer. I know, I know, the S drives better than the Z3-4, you don't have to tell me. But the average buyer in our local store wouldn't even see the S. In fact the local dealership sold their last 3 S's out of town. Advertising the S would go against the image Honda has carefully crafted.

Edited to say that since Honda was never involved in NASCAR, most Americans have no idea the deep history Honda has in racing and motor sports.

I feel as if the S didn't succeed as much as it could because it wasn't too publicized. I mean everyone I know knows what a Z4 is but alot of people don't know what a S2K is.

I mean this was the last year of it and the Honda clearance commercials don't even mention it, only accords and other lower end cars.

I know the market is smaller, but it just didn't seem like I was pushed at all.
I think it's safe to day there was plenty of demand for the S, after all the car was only supposed to be built for a year or two and they ended up building it for 10.....

They didn't NEED to advertise. It was a low volume limited production car, not a Civic.

Haha i Lol'd when I saw that, wasn't even thinking about that.

No, the s2k is def portrayed as a chick car, all fast and furious did for us was call it a fricking honda 2000 or whatever the hell, and to top off the second one, high school musical 3 made our car look like the ultimate chick car for teenagers. To make it even worse, every woman on every street corner tells us our car is "cute" and there's a whole thread of people getting pissed off about that (Funny things people have said about your s2000 threads)
