Default Jack Fail

These tires were HORRIBLE in the snow/cold as you may know. I bought ap1 wheels for the winter almost a month ago and they just got here. I bought some snow tires off my friend. I got them mounted and brought them home.
I went to autozone to buy a jack. I bought some 30 dollar duralast jack. I get home to use it and...it doesn't fit under my car! ahhhhh....So I go back and return it for a duralast "racing jack" It was slimmer and fit under my car...Sweet! So I do the first wheel no problem. I start jacking it up for the second wheel and I hear a loud crack and the whole car just drops. Thank God I didn't start taking off the wheel yet. So I ended up finishing the job with a nissan maxima scissor jack.

Has anyone had any experience with duralast? You think it was just a defective jack? Anyway I hope to return it tomorrow and buy a "better" one. Any reccomendations?

All autozone tools are suspect IMO. They are all made by the lowest bider in China. Never get under the car with only a jack supporting it, use jack stands if you can.

I use this a couple of times per week and haven't had an issue in the 2 years since I bought it. I ordered it from that site but later saw it at Pep Boys.

X2 on jack stands or stick a old rim under the car incase the jack fails.

Are you sure the "crack" wasn't the jack slipping off the jacking point of the car?

Thanks for the info guys, I'm def. not cheaping out on a jack. I didn't get under the car I was only changing wheels.

And the crack wasn't the car slipping off the jack. I lined it up perfect with the points specified in the owner's manual under the car. And after the sound the jack doesn't even work it won't go back up when you pump it.

Thanks man, me too. I was kind of shocked once it happened because I was like...if I took the wheel off, I would have been ****ed.
