J's aluminum steering rack bushings install
Hey all
Tomorrow my S is going to a shop to have the J's racing steering ridge sleeve kit installed.(aluminum bushings to replace the rubber bushings on the steering rack)
The shop told me the install will take about 4-5 hours!
So tomorrow afternoon I'll hopefully have an S2000 with a little bit of steering feel in the steering wheel!
I'll post the difference of before and after the install. They road surface changes-what the tires are doing are supposed to be better transmitted through the steering wheel with the new metal bushings. We'll see...

Well the install only took 3-4 hours, not too bad!
I'll post pics up soon.
This is my 3rd AP1 so I know them pretty well steering wise but I haven't tracked one yet. (my 1st track day is September 9th!)
With the new aluminum steering rack bushings the steering effort in parking lot speeds is quite greater than with the OEM bushings. It feels a lot ''tighter'', as if there is less boost in the electric power assist.
At cruising speeds around town the steering effort isn't really different than with the OEM bushings. What I did notice though from cruising around town is that if I turned my steering wheel completely to the left or to the right the response is more immediate; there isn't a little ''delay '' or ''play'' in the steering response. Very nice!
At higher speeds the difference in steering response is even greater, especially the more you turn the wheel in a full lock.
As for the steering ''feel'' improvement, when I'm driving around town over bumps and irregular road surfaces there is more vibration through the steering wheel than with the OEM bushings which is great.
The steering wheel will also ''track'' less easy; if the road is filled with cracks or is uneven, the steering wheel will follow these irregularities even more so than with the OEM bushings. There is a sense that the steering wheel is less of an ''arcade style'' steering wheel as there is more feedback as to what the road conditions are and what the tires are doing.
Now all these little details aren't very easy to notice, and you REALLY have to know your S2000 to enjoy the J's racing steering kit.
Overall the steering feels ''tighter'', a little heavier, (especially at parking lot speeds) the steering response is sharper and the steering wheel won't go back to the on-center position automatically like with the OEM bushings.
I'm very happy with my purchase but this kind of mod is for freaks like me who like to feel more vibration through the steering wheel

Good report!
I wonder what my next ''mod'' should be lol
Would aftermarket tie rods improve steering feel?
