but also they want to change it enough to entice current s2000 owners to trade in their 2.0 for a new 2.2.
I don't think so. You said yourself in your reply that the current model "supposedly" isn't selling well anymore because the enthusiasts have bought their car already and the competition is too great now. Why then would Honda want a mass load of used current model S2K's on their lot if they can't even sell their new one's?

S2200 News! 2004 model will be available this Fall with a host of
changes. The 2.0 turns into a 2.2 liter 'four'. Although the new engine will pump out the same 240 HP, Honda promises more torque, peaking at a lower RPM - the current 2.0 produces 153
lb. ft. at a stratospheric 7500 RPM. The 2.2 will also have a lower
redline than the current 9000 RPM and a more linear HP delivery.
The six-speed trans. will use different gear ratios to match the new engine's torquier nature. Honda has also softened the suspension for better ride quality. Subtly different front and rear fascias, new interior trim, and oval tailpipes round out the changes.

Well if true, I guess the whole of the U.K. will be hoping that will be a U.S. only change. You can't power out of corners if your car is leaning over at an angle like a soft suspensioned luxury passenger car.

I understand the suspension was changed with the 02 model onwards to alter at the limit handling. Hope someone at Honda hasn't forgotten its a sports car

Geez, if you're going to quote the August, 2003 Car and Driver at least attribute the quote...

In the honda tradition, it will carry on the heritage of tranny problems
