Default JDM BLING...

Ok, so all I ever hear about is JDM bling... I bought my exhaust off of a dude and was askin about his clear signals in an AP1 and how hard it was to do.. His reply was "oh those are JDM...gotta have the bling!" I'm sorry, but I think it's really a small penis syndrome or something like that of all the dudes driving cars with BIG ASS engines to feel like they are the shit. Now most of the JDM stuff is top notch and looks very good, but seriously.. An intake kit that costs 1100+, exhaust that is upwards of 2G's.. Everything that is JDM TYTE is atleast 3-4x the price of something similar that isn't JDM.. I guess if money is not an object, one might want to drop it.. But I could find lots of things to drop the extra money on.. Am I the only person that feels this way?

Actually I feel the opposite.

I see your point on the prices and all, but to me its about the car I drive, If I had a Mercedes or BMW I would sport most mods that originated in Germany or Europe, If I had a Dodge I would buy more Mopar or USDM parts. Since I drive a Honda I tend to buy parts that originated in Japan . To me it makes more sense.

I am not saying you cant find quality parts for Japanese cars in the US or Europe, but most of the best parts tend to come from the country of origin. However if I where to build my motor I would probably do it thru Hytech (they build quality parts that work ), instead of buying a J's or other JDM crate motor. Comptech also has some really nice parts.

It just seems there is more people who talk sh!t in the Honda and Acura forums about "JDM Bling" or thats "JDM tyte yo" and when you look at cars that everyone in the forums really like they all have a JDM theme (Tommy from Go Tuning, Kel's track car, both of Medical students cars, Diez's car etc)... I mean if you go to a Bimmer forum I doubt you will see many folks saying the AC Schnitzer kit is stupid, because its expensive or suggesting that someone buy a seibon hood over a Euro make

In the Honda seen there are lots of people who want to build cars and go after a certain look, but dont want to spend the money on high end parts to get the look they are after. Thats why company's like Rota, Shine, and others who make copy cat parts make so much $$$ (I am not saying any of the parts are junk or dont fit the way they should, just pointing out the way the US market is).

In Japan prices are more expensive and the people of Japan dont mind spending lots of $$$ on their hobby, while in the US everyone wants to build there cars for as little $$$ as possible.

I am generalizing based on what I have seen in the years I have been envolved with tuning imports (about 14yrs and counting), I am not trying to flame anyone or start an internet war . Just my thoughts on the subject .

Sorry for the book

JDM is nice. I don't have a problem with people that want to spend money on it. However, I do have a problem with the people who are Super JDM elitist bastards that look down on others because they don't have JDM parts.

I always thought "bling" consisted of mods made strictly for looks. Most of the bling lighting effects are made in the USA, so I don't see a connection between bling and JDM speed shops. Maybe it's because so many of the blinged out cars (cars that are all show and no go) are cluttered with JDM parts, but the shops can't help it when their parts are used on show cars rather than as intended. Can they?

The prices reflect the cost consciousness of the market they are dealing with, and they're only charging what they've found that the market will bear. Do-nothing parts are always overpriced, no matter where they come from.
